Automod setup
Build automated moderation rules that catch rule-breakers before your team sees them.
Choose a trigger
Pick what should activate the rule: banned words, regex patterns, links, invites, attachment types, message spam, duplicate spam, join spam, all-caps, zalgo text or excessive mentions.
Set the action
Decide what happens when the trigger matches. Options include deleting the message, warning the user, muting, kicking, banning, assigning a role, setting slowmode, sending an alert or simply logging the event.
Set conditions
Gate when the rule fires: restrict it to - or exclude it from - specific channels or roles, exempt or target Nighthawk permission groups, limit it to a time window, and control whole-word and case-sensitive matching. You can also target members by account or membership age, only fire for unverified members with no roles, or only for repeat offenders with enough past moderation cases. Each condition can apply to all of the rule's triggers or only selected ones.
Condition reference
Every condition can be switched off without deleting it, and each one applies either to all of the rule's triggers or only to the ones you pick. Matching conditions change how triggers match: Whole words only matches whole words instead of substrings inside other words, and Case sensitive compares exact letter casing - both work on keyword triggers, case sensitivity also on regex triggers. Restrictions decide whether a matched message is acted on at all: Channels and Roles fire the rule only in - or never in - the channels you list, or only for members with - or without - the roles you list. Permission groups does the same for Nighthawk permission groups, either sparing the groups you trust or aiming the rule at exactly the groups you pick. Time window fires the rule only between two times of day, on the days you choose, in the timezone you choose; a window past midnight such as 22:00-06:00 simply wraps into the next day. Account age and Membership age fire only for members whose Discord account - or whose time in your server - is younger or older than a duration like 12h or 7d. No roles (unverified) fires only for members who hold no roles at all, and Repeat offender fires only once a member already has at least the number of moderation cases you set - optionally counting only the case types you pick, like bans or verify kicks. Conditions that need information Nighthawk cannot see for an event - say a channel on a join, or a member who is no longer cached - are skipped rather than blocking the rule.
Configure cooldowns and limits
Set message count thresholds, time windows and repeat limits. A spam rule might trigger after five messages in three seconds, while a link filter can act on the first offending message.
Test and monitor
Use the dashboard to test a rule against sample messages. Review automod hits in the dashboard or in your configured log channel to make sure rules are working as expected.
